An investment grade diamond is usually classified as a perfect to almost perfect white diamond. The most valuable rough diamonds are shaped by the most skilled diamond polishers, delivering the highest quality standards and the potential for significant price increases.
An investment grade diamond must be verified by an accredited gemological laboratory and come with a certificate detailing the diamond's unique measurements and physical characteristics. Because they have been graded by an independent, professional gemologist, these diamonds command a greater price than non-certified stones.
The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is the world's most prestigious diamond grading institution. It is also the institution that established the 4Cs, the world's standard for rating the grade of a diamond, which is now widely recognised and utilized by professional jewelers.
